Are You Copy Copy?

I started my career at a reputable Pharmaceutical Company. I would remain grateful to this Company. They trained me into the Super Sales Guru I am today.  I look back with nostalgia all the lessons I learnt at this Company. Today I would be sharing about the term “Generic” or Copy cat!

As an OTC (Over The Counter) representative, it was a mix blend of selling simple items to a complex society.  I had the responsibility of detailing (explaining why my simple Medication had to be prescribed as the drug of choice. Our product Managers were the brightest in the industry, who came up with Cycle plans (quarterly plans /Strategy) for the team. I enjoyed every moment, ante natal Clinics, Taxi Parks, Detailing Doctors, Presentations to the Health community under the c Supervision of the Medical Rep (who was a Pharmacist).  I learnt the core of my career;
“Generate your Demand and then Supply the Market”

In this Company, we were trained in the art of “Objection Handling” We are prepared with likely objections that would be thrown at us, so if you threw a question or objection, we had a manual with answers. (ever so prepared).  This is a practise I will surely run in my Company.

A fad crept up, and the objection was “we use the generic” or “the generic is more affordable” and that is one objection that rattles me, because most generic are more affordable.

I have changed Industries’ few times and also Companies, and from experience I have realised that there is always a generic product anywhere you turn, even hum beings are generic.

I learnt how to handle the objection on my own, in the school of life.

I have witnessed that during Job Interviews, you have various generic brands, whom also want the job you are interviewing for, Consumers also have the choice of generic products, you have generics on your team, the ability to be a super brand, will always put you in advantage.

Companies invest Millions of Dollars to not be seen as generic, hence being generic is not a good thing.

Being Generic is easy, being a Brand, you need to detail yourself as a Unique person, see yourself as a solution to a given problem, not just part of a team, but a team player with a significant role is not as easy.

ACTION PLAN:

  1. Define yourself: What do you really want? What do you enjoy? What Problems do you enjoy solving?

  2. Brand Yourself: What makes you different? What gets you into trouble? What do people dislike about you? What are people trying to change about you, including your Manager?

  3. Strategy: Do you need to learn new skills to make yourself stronger? Do you need to go back to School? Do you need to focus on your dreams for a while?

  4. Confidence: You need to be strong to be yourself.

  5. Uniqueness, creativity and innovation should be your watchwords.

Life is worth living Happy.

Stop being generic!

Stop being a copy copy!

Who cares?

Live your dream Being Successful is relative; relative is a word that strikes my mind because we define what success is. When things are finally looking up, you have nagging thoughts “will this success stay forever? I hope I will not fail again, I hope this is finally it!” happens to me . Candidly, we were born to create, control and rule, we have this natural instinct to want more things, grow from phase to phase, different things, but one thing that is constant is the fact we need to move forward. Success is achieving set goals, goals are not tasks, they are what you want to achieve at a point in time, and the goal has to be timed. We finally achieve the goal, which is success, and you reward yourself, and it does not feel as you imagined it will be, maybe you have poured yourself into the mould that you have lost a number of relationships, you have been too hard on yourself, you never enjoyed your path to success, you have a feeling of emptiness, Success is not meant to feel wrong! ...

Science of Successful.

Becoming Successful is never dependent of your location, the kind of job or profession, neither is it about the way you look, or the kind of family you come from. I have spent a great part of my life in Nigeria and I got a lot of things wrong,  yes I do love Nigeria but I can honestly say that I was not happy with the infrastructure, lifestyle of my neighborhood, Schools I had gone to, just to list a few. My career has been dynamic,  my formative years  at a pharmaceutical Company gave me a strong foundation. I have been opportuned to be part of various projects, I have driven volumes for my respective territories or Area. During the last election, I preached the gospel of APC  because of Babatunde Raji Fashola . Lagos had transformed from a slum to a city I am proud of as a Nigerian, Lagos state should be a model we can repeat Nationwide. One phrase that rings in my ears, Entrepreneurship!. Being an Entrepreneur in Nigeria is scary, especially if you went to a Nigerian University. Rea...
