Law of Allowing.

Be strong enough to let others be. “Whatever stops Growing begins to die” anonymous. The cliché Create the world you want to live in, bounces off our shoulders. Candidly, I have realised that imagination is quite difficult in the Nigerian Education system, the Kids cram the multiplication table as early as 4 years old, stop colouring and drawing by 8. In Nigeria, “carry Monkey Syndrome” is rampant; this syndrome can be explained in simple terms of “YES SIR!” The Carry Monkey Syndrome cuts every sphere, Religion, Politics, Professional, domestic, neighbours, entertainment, the list goes on. Bisi, whom explained this syndrome to me, and made me aware of the working of this syndrome, the practicability of the syndrome in Office politics, he explains in a meeting of Area Sales Managers’ “why do you like make things difficult for yourselves?” He goes,” if management expects the task to be done, you do the task, regardless your opinion, you do not have to believe in the strategy, just execut...

Apply your Knowledge.

Yesterday, on my way home I listened to the radio, and the presenter goes " Your smartphone is a Window to the World"  (I live in Nigeria) she goes on that all we do with our gadgets are the usual chatting and social media, I ponder, true, but what else can we do?, she recommended free online courses, hmm, I tried one of those, internet was so slow that I missed the course .

How to get Promoted at work.

Careers in Nigeria is a roller coaster ride, round and round and round, up, then down, sideways . we can categorize career moves into various shells Conservative: I  am grateful for this job, whatever happens , I am going nowhere. Risk Taker: it is all about the money, at the right price, I can work anywhere. Organised: properly planned move, based on personal goals and ambitions. The human Resources department believe they have the understanding of how the world revolves though they are the relatively insensitive in most Organisations in Nigeria ( I have friends in HR). In Nigeria, we have a pot pourri of Organisations, from  what we call " one man business"  the owner of the business, is the HR/Admin, sales manager, operations manager et al. Another kind of business is the "shop owner"  Nigeria being an importing Nation, we have shops everywhere, the workforce here is a simple  structure of a salesboy/sales girl.  We have our Public Service, popularly known as...

You owe nobody .

[gallery ids="97,54" type="circle" columns="2"] My darling daughters, Each time I set my eyes upon you, my heart bursts  with joy, pride, satisfaction and love. Thank you for teaching me how to dance "shoki", candy crush and subway surfers. I am dropping a few tips to get you ahead of your class. Enjoy everyday: do the best you can do each day, but ensure you enjoy yourself. Love yourself: this is a golden rule♥, You can achieve anything you set your mind on. Never lower your standards, regardless of the pressure of trying to be cool. You are beautiful: pictures always look better the next day ♠. Think it through! : not every sermon is accurate, neither every book, ask how does this message apply to me? Do not stop being friends with the under dog:  (trust me, they are the most loyal friends and allies) Be courageous: be yourself, you owe nobody, not every neighbor has to be your friend .   Life is worth living happily. Love Mum.

Is Africa really Poor?

[gallery ids="50,90" type="rectangular"] A discussion brew up on YouTube recently, regarding proverty in Africa, as a Nigerian, I knew in my bones that this is inaccurate, yes we do have a number of people living below Western standards does not mean we are poor. I pondered on this the whole day,  Charities have shown Clips of hungry children, to get donors for worthy causes, but how many of these projects get executed. I look again more closely, Are we really poor in Africa? I believe the issue we have is not being creative enough, no dispute that we had famines and wars in parts of the Continent, however we have excess  farming land in parts of the same continent. When we were kids, and you are daydreaming, you get a knock on the head and told " stop  daydreaming! " As a Continent we have a poor Imagination, we can not dream ,think of what we want, as individuals, as aNation, as a Continent. I am a Nigerian, South Africa gets the prize for innovation in ...

What I love about 2Baba (2Face)

On my way to work this morning, 2face's songs played on my car CD, "what a guy !" are the thoughts that readily comes to mind. I  love the track  with 9ice (Street Credibility) and really love a recent one called " Dance in the Rain" . In recent times Tuface had evolved into a lot of lyrics around positive vibrations, i just thought that 2Baba was high on "igbo" but listening to Dance in the rain again I realised he was preaching a sermon. He had finally got the secret formula ,  he needed to relax and enjoy the air. Live life and appreciate it, bask in the sunlight, enjoy the ride, take some time to smell the flowers, it is your life so live it. I sincerely believe that as average Nigerians we are too hard on ourselves, 2face had fallen a number of times, lots of scandals, numerous kids from different women, but he pressed pause, rewind , then play. I appreciate how he was strong enough to make decisions that was required at the time. We all know ...

Losing your job could be a good thing.

As higher learning beings, comfort is an instinct that is so  strong that we would do anything to keep our patch. Most of us allow our job roles to define whom we stand to be, we  put  our jobs which gives us a sense of  security and self worth and standing in society. I agree that success is day to measure on the job, but true success is you achieving your set goals. I understand that at this point in time you feel disappointed, betrayed, a strong dislike for your colleagues left in the system, especially when you feel you have given your all on the course of duty, you can not stand the look of the Company logo, i truly understand, you might not have a plan B in income, bills will surely slap you in the face, very few people call you, even the kids' school are breathing down your neck, I understand. Action Plan 1. Never Panic! : Things will fall into place, I do not know how, but be calm. 2. Never ask for help in desperation: makes matters worse.   Cool calm and collected. 3. Play...

Everybody has the tendency to be bad.

Yesterday, I was talking to Ali (my husband) and I mentioned that if he were in the North during the last General Elections ( Ali grew up in Kaduna, and does have close relations with the ruling party)  we would have gotten a few million dollars from the #Dasukigate. He looked up and smiled, "you are so right!" We would have collected money that we would be so distressed about, but could anyone have turned down money from the Presidency? (All na questions?) Jim Rohm stated that we all need to have principled principles, We grew up in a Country that we perceive that only influence from "Oga at the top" can open doors. Government jobs are only given to the children of Civil servants (inheritance), contracts are given to Oga himself, sharp deals are seen as smart, but thank heavens, though things are changing, our moral compass was need to be overhauled. I once read, and applied a technique from Wattle D Wallace, which says that " Do not drive a sharp bargain, but ...

Science of being Rich; Talk is Cheap.

Great Ideas always look stupid to everyone else. It takes a strong heart to do what you want to do. Everyone has a reason they feel you can not achieve this goal, unfortunately we always listen to these people, and add this to the long list which we have already created for ourselves about reasons we can not achieve our set goals. The Human mind as powerful it is, adapts to the environment it finds itself in, just like the most sophisticated gadget, or an Apple phone, and the only thing the owner uses it for is Voice calls, WhatsApp, and Facebook. I live at Ibadan, a semi urban city, but grew up in Lagos, and with great amusement, I observe my surrounding, 90% of the populace have the same target and goals, have the same kind of businesses,  even to the women hairstyles, buy the same kind of cars. It baffles me. My observations are that we are scared to do something unique, the more we put our Minds to work, the more successful we become. We were all created differently, but in the same...

Science of being Rich; Applying the 80-20 rule

The  Pareto  principle (also known as the 80–20 rule, the  law  of the vital few, and the principle of factor sparsity) states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. Pareto principle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://en.wikipedia.org › wiki › Pareto_... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle This principle fascinates me, because logically it seems far fetched but however it works and proves to me that i worry too much. ,I was in a study class for PMP certification and Mrs Otuchere mentions " solve 20% of the problem and the 80% fizzles away" gbam! Huge paradigm shift! Then why have I been working so hard to make sure it is 100% perfect, why does the FG  of Nigeria not just focus on 20% of our issues, why do I not focus on 20% of my Sales team, and stop trying to make up super strong army, why have I not focused on just 20% of my forever long list of wants, lots of why's. I tried it! I chose the 20% accounts I deci...

How to remain Happy on the Sales Job.

"Science of being great" is a classic from Wattle D Wallace. A lesson I have learnt the hard way is that " Life is not a competition " earlier on in life ( just my opinion) I was in the opinion that I had to beat everyone at the race. Unfortunately, I never seemed to win the race, I could say that at a point in time, I did not know what I wanted, It was " what could I do to be seen as better?" The simple solution I stumbled on was "Create Your World" We all have dreams, wants, things in a particular order. The uniqueness of our wants puts us in front of the pack in a simple manner. Let me give you a nudge to JumpStart your thinking process,  we never want the same things, the difference in our wants brings out the uniqueness in us. Various Management theories and laws have proved this but yet we compete for what we think is limited. Earl Nightingale defined success as "achieving set goals, however goals differ from person to person, what app...

Science of Successful.

Becoming Successful is never dependent of your location, the kind of job or profession, neither is it about the way you look, or the kind of family you come from. I have spent a great part of my life in Nigeria and I got a lot of things wrong,  yes I do love Nigeria but I can honestly say that I was not happy with the infrastructure, lifestyle of my neighborhood, Schools I had gone to, just to list a few. My career has been dynamic,  my formative years  at a pharmaceutical Company gave me a strong foundation. I have been opportuned to be part of various projects, I have driven volumes for my respective territories or Area. During the last election, I preached the gospel of APC  because of Babatunde Raji Fashola . Lagos had transformed from a slum to a city I am proud of as a Nigerian, Lagos state should be a model we can repeat Nationwide. One phrase that rings in my ears, Entrepreneurship!. Being an Entrepreneur in Nigeria is scary, especially if you went to a Nigerian University. Rea...
