Nigerian Salesmen should begin with the ending in sight.

What was the real plan? the big picture you were too shy to talk about? Faderera my daughter has a dream so big, I squirm when she answers my colleagues that she wants to buy the Company I currently work for. (I was stammering and stuttering) but she reminded me that there is no crazy dream. (Thank you @Fadekoye) We all have dreams, and success is achieving your own set goal.  To begin with the end in Mind means to start with aclear understanding of your destination,it means to know where you are going,so you know always the right direction. My dream is much different from yours. Let me tell you a story; My Father was successful for his time, and naturally he wanted me to be as successful as he, he monitored, drilled, smothered and did what he could to ensure that I succeeded. Unfortunately, I derailed from his timelines and expectations and broke his heart. One morning he was sharing his thoughts with me on I had failed, having had enough of my father’s ...

“Self-Motivation” the Salesman’s magic blue bill.

(Image from www.weshare.com )   No one can force you to do a job you do not want to do. Sales Jobs can seem to be weary behind closed doors, you get to a point and say to yourself "is this really worth the stress?" Sales jobs have their down days where you feel that you just cannot go on. From experience it is easier to stay Self Motivated, than expecting to Management to keep you motivated, because we all have a free will, and we rebel when being coerced into submission. Simple Crazy tips to keep you Self Motivated: As at that Moment, you are the person for the Job: Feel good with yourself It is just a Job; This job does not define whom you are, it is just a process to achieve your dreams. Remind yourself the reason you are at the job: Bad days do not last forever. Remind yourself of past victories, you can succeed at anything, so keep going. Management will always change, so just hold on, strategies constantly change, however you need to choose when to leave. Your...

The Relationship between “Fantastic Customer Service” and Salesmanship.

I get cranky when I receive lousy customer service, I have screamed at the MTN Offices (Opebi and Oluyole) I have screamed at the DSTV office at Jericho, Etisalat office at The Palms at Ring road, rolled my eyes at the administrators at my daughters' schools, screamed at the bank, Ali tries to stop my show of top notch customer service, he keeps me in the car while he pays the bills. (I am forever grateful that my Bank is 10/10 on mobile payments.) I have been to a few places, and the Customer service is so pleasant, I wonder "is it the training on the job? or the individual is pleasant?" The In vivo Supermarket/ YUdala makes you enjoy your shopping experience time and time again, I just wonder! As a Salesman, we are brainwashed and indoctrinated that "Customers are always right" but how come we still have lousy Customer Service? Individual Ignorance: In the Yoruba Culture, being calm, cool and collected can be mistaken as being "STUPID" I was...

“X factor” + Sales professional = Successful Sales Career path.

The Average life span of a Sales rep is 3 years before he becomes burnt out. I have never worked for a Company whom really cares if you are happy on the job, so I have come to a realisation that you have to make yourself happy on the job. I will continue to see the Sales Team as an Army, with the structure, Line of command, Discipline, but times change in such a rapid instance, that the Sales structure is constantly being questioned. To get ahead of the pack, you need to have a little extra, your own personal "USB" (Unique Selling Point) Being a Salesman will never guarantee you success, you need to be more than just that. A Well trained monkey can wear a suit and act the part, as you know the ideal sales team to Management is a Team that "does not question" but to be truly successful, you need to bring extra to the table. I understand we have spent a lot of time "trying to survive on the Job", I am going to give a few ideas on the little extra skills; ...
